Luxury vinyl flooring is available in a few different constructions. You may have heard the terms SPC, WPC, LVP, and LVT - all of those acronyms can get a little overwhelming! LVT and LVP simply refer to luxury vinyl tile and luxury vinyl plank. WPC is a vinyl plank with a foamed waterproof core that creates a thicker product that is quieter underfoot. SPC is a solid polymer core product and like it sounds, it's more of a rigid product than WPC. SPC is ideal for commercial applications but also works well in residential applications. The eco-friendliness of vinyl flooring varies. Look for options certified as low-VOC (volatile organic compound) to minimize environmental impact. Shaw Floors luxury vinyl styles, for instance, are FloorScore® certified, meeting stringent standards for low chemical emissions.
With the right care and maintenance, vinyl flooring can last 20 to 25 years—or even longer—depending on its type. These factors include wear layer, level of traffic and assuming that the floor has been properly cared for.
