LAMINATE CARE

Expert tips to keep your Shaw Floors laminate looking its best.

How to Keep Laminate Clean

3 easy steps to keep it clean. Have a weird spill? Use our calculator for a custom instructions.

Sweep, Dust, Vacuum!

Do this on a regular basis with the hard surface floor attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent accumulation of dirt and grit that can scratch or dull the floor finish.

Recommended Cleaning Products

Use cleaning products made specifically for laminate floor care like Shaw Hard Surface cleaner. Do not wash or wet mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent or any other liquid cleaning product.

What to Avoid?

Avoid using steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or strong ammoniated or chlorinated type cleaners. For spots such as candle wax or chewing gum, harden the spot with ice and then gently scrape with a plastic scraper, such as a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the flooring surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

    • Spot Cleaning: Use entry mats to collect sand, dirt, grit and other contaminates such as oil.

    • Floor Protectors: Use floor protectors and wide-load bearing leg bases/rollers to minimize the chance of indentations and scratches from heavy objects. As a rule, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector.

    • Pet Considerations: Check pet's nails periodically and keep them trimmed to prevent scratches.

    • Relative Humidity: Monitor humidity levels and maintain between 35% and 65% humidity year round to minimize expansion and contraction of your laminate flooring.

    • Heating Season (Dry): A humidifier can be used to prevent excess shrinkage due to low humidity levels. Wood stoves and electric heat tend to create very dry conditions.

    • Non-Heating Season (Wet): An air conditioner, dehumidifier, or periodically turning on your heating will help to maintain humidity during summer months.
